Pre-departure for Accepted Students
Here are the things you need to do after you are accepted to the program, along with some tips as you begin to plan your journey.
1. Once you receive an acceptance email from OIE (Office of International Education), you will know that you have officially been accepted to the program.
2. Apply for a passport as soon as possible if you do not already have one! (link to https://travel.state.gov/content/passports/en/passports/apply.html)
3. If you have a passport, check it to make sure the passport is valid until 6 months AFTER you will be coming home from France. If you do not have the extra 6 months of validity on your passport, please apply for a renewal right away.
4. Join and monitor the closed Facebook group for your semester for next steps.
5. Attend the mandatory visa session you will be invited to. Be sure to bring a copy of your passport with you, or proof that you have applied for a passport.
6. Attend the mandatory GTL and OIE orientations.
7. Come to the GTL office if you need to break your on-campus housing contract. We will provide a form so that you can break your contract without penalty.
8. Monitor the Facebook group for further instructions on a regular basis.
9. Prepare to have the best semester ever!
TIPS
• Monitor the closed Facebook group for your semester closely for important dates, deadlines, and requests.
• Attend all orientations, and more importantly, pay attention!
• Don’t miss any orientations or deadlines; you will lose “points” and have lower priority for housing in Metz if you do.
• Do not buy your plane ticket until you have been instructed to do.
• There are several ways to lower the costs of your GTL semester.
o Check to see if you are eligible for any scholarships.
o Apply to become an RA and your housing costs will be covered.
