Can my student apply directly to Georgia Tech-Lorraine?
No. All undergraduate applications to the Georgia Tech-Lorraine program are handled through Georgia Tech’s Office of International Education (OIE). Transient students need to be admitted to Georgia Tech on a temporary basis as part of the application process. Graduate students must apply for an be accepted for a degree program through the schools of Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering. Current Georgia Tech masters students may contact their advisor to request a change in campus if they wish to study at Georgia Tech-Lorraine for one semester.
We don't forget the "study" in study abroad. Students can take courses that apply to their major and minor - not just free electives.
The core research foci at Georgia Tech-Lorraine are Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, and Electrical and Computer Engineering, but the broad range of courses offered apply to most majors. All majors can attend GTL.

Financial aid and scholarships will typically apply, especially for Georgia Tech students since Georgia Tech-Lorraine is a campus abroad program rather than a study abroad program. Please consult directly with the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid if you have any questions.

The cost (note: please link to the cost page in Undergraduate/GO/) The cost of attending Georgia Tech-Lorraine is often comparable to spending a semester at our campus in Atlanta, even factoring in the flight to Europe and budgeting for meals and weekend travel. All students pay in-state tuition, with out-of-state students paying an additional fee. Even with the additional fee, the program can be less expensive for out-of-state students than spending a semester on the Atlanta campus. Many students enjoy the program so much, and appreciate the value, that they attend for a semester in a subsequent year!

Students live in student residence halls within walking distance of campus. All students must live in these dorms.

Georgia Tech-Lorraine is open to all majors! Historically, the program has attracted engineering majors, but with increased course options in liberal arts, French, business, economics, math, and physics, all majors are welcome.
Does my student need to speak French in order to attend Georgia Tech-Lorraine?

No. All courses, with the exception of French language classes, are taught in English by Georgia Tech faculty. Although we highly recommend taking French while at Georgia Tech-Lorraine, it is not a program requirement.*

Will coursework taken at Georgia Tech-Lorraine count towards my student’s degree?
Yes. All coursework taken at Georgia Tech-Lorraine will count towards credit needed for graduation at Georgia Tech. Transient students will need to check with their school to make sure the credits will transfer.
Can my student attend if they are not a Georgia Tech undergraduate student?

Yes. High-achieving undergraduate transient students may attend our program during all three semesters. Students need a 3.0 GPA to apply. Click here to read more about applying as a transient student.
Please note that International transient students are not eligible to attend Georgia Tech-Lorraine. Undergraduate students from other universities must be US citizens or US Permanent Residents (Green Card holders) to apply to Georgia Tech-Lorraine. Students from other universities on other types of US visas are NOT permitted to apply.

A. It depends. At the undergraduate level, only international students currently enrolled at Georgia Tech may study at Georgia Tech-Lorraine. At the graduate level, most international students are eligible to study at Georgia Tech-Lorraine.
When can my student study at Georgia Tech-Lorraine?

A. Georgia Tech-Lorraine is a year-round campus. Undergraduates, including transient students, can study at the campus in the Fall, Spring or Summer semesters. The program is open to graduate students as well, in Fall and Spring semesters. Students can study at the Lorraine campus as early as the Summer of their Freshman year, all the way through their senior year.
Graduate students can complete their degree in Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering entirely at Georgia Tech-Lorraine, or just spend a semester. Graduate students of all majors can spend just a semester on the Lorraine campus, so long as they find enough courses to fill their schedule.
